The competition between China and the US to be the world's largest and most influential economy presents both a risk and an opportunity for the Middle East.
Any further deterioration in the Sino-American relationship risks causing a long-term bifurcation of politics and technology between East and West. And then, for those countries and companies who find themselves both geographically and diplomatically 'in the middle', there will be growing pressure to choose sides.
It is a challenge recognised by regional business leaders as well as politicians. US-China relations was cited by EICN members as a significant risk in our recent Middle East Business Outlook Survey, especially, one suspects, for multinationals headquartered in the US or Europe.
So we are delighted that we are expecting a visit to Dubai from China with Qian (Louise) Liu, the managing director of The Economist Group Greater China and moreover that she has kindly agreed to meet members of the EICN for a lunch in the private dining room of Royal China Dubai restaurant in DIFC at which we can discuss with her all things China.
Please note that this event is limited to senior-level executives and per invitation only. If you are not an existing member of The Economist Intelligence Corporate Network, but would like to learn how you can attend our events, please contact us.
