The Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) is not only an ambitious cross-border undertaking with the potential to generate significant value-add to both Johor's and Singapore's economy. It is also a spirited endeavour that goes against the unfortunate trend of isolationism and trade barriers. The special economic zone will be roughly four times the size of Singapore and nearly twice of Shenzhen. It will comprise a number of distinct zones catering to different sectors - including manufacturing, logistics, food security, tourism, energy, the digital economy, the green economy, financial services, business services, education and health - across Johor.


Since the agreement has now been inked, EICN is pleased to invite you to another insightful event this March. We will analyse and discuss the JS-SEZ's potential, identify opportunities and raise awareness as to the regulatory requirements and structural environment, as you evaluate if and how you can make the JS-SEZ work for your business.

    Eric Lee

    Regional Managing Partner at Digital Districts

    Eric Lee is the Regional Managing Partner of Digital Districts, a network of tech ecosystem builders across Southeast Asia, driving digital ventures, digital investments, and digital exports. He was formerly the Head of Public Policy at Amazon Web Services (Malaysia & Brunei), where he led the US$6 billion data region investment into Malaysia. He was also the Public Policy Manager at Meta (Malaysia & Brunei) for 5 years, focused on infrastructure and connectivity, digital upskilling, and content regulation.

    Eric holds a Master of Public Policy from Oxford University, LL.M. in Banking and Finance Law (Distinction) (Chevening Scholar) from UCL, Bar Vocational Professional Diploma from Nottingham Law School, and LL.B. (1st Class Hons) from the University of Wales. Eric is also a Barrister-at-Law in England and Wales, and an Advocate and Solicitor in Malaysia.

    Jeevan Rajoo heads Tata Consultancy Services in Malaysia (TCS). He joined TCS several years ago and has worked in various capacities across the organization bringing more than 25 years of techno business leadership and executive management experience to his role. He manages corporate direction and strategy, facilitating company activity in consulting, sales, marketing and business partnership. He is also responsible for TCS Malaysia’s business units for industries, serving specific markets and industries such as financial services, Energy sector, telecommunications, and utilities with services designed to help solve the most complex business problems. He drives all key initiatives across the company, including designing and executing unique organizational growth programs with his clients.

    Under Jeevan's leadership, TCS has increased market share and revenue to become the top 5 consulting company in Malaysia with close to 1200 consultants working across Malaysian projects. Jeevan's pioneered a policy of agile at workplace, interacting with the project delivery to have a pulse on all implemented programs. His approach to customer intimacy, business value creation, and staying relevant in all the engagements that he handles has been noteworthy within the industry. He advises members of Board of Directors in Government Linked Companies (GLC) especially in areas of digital economy and SDG transformation.

    His strengths are in marketplace analysis, growth strategies, and non-linear growth, predicting trends while harnessing intrinsic corporate entrepreneurial spirit to nimble and agile organizations.

    He graduated from University of Wales with BEng(Hons) Electronics with Communication, MBA from University of Newcastle and has completed Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.

    He is appointed by the Malaysian Government as a member of the GtoG CEO Forum between India and Malaysia. He is also a council member of Malaysia-India Business Council. In the past, he was tasked to spearheads programs to create entrepreneurs through an agency under the Prime Minister’s Department of Malaysia.

    His passion in Sustainability Development Goals is evident which has led to the incubation of Social Enterprise Startups to address youth unemployment in Malaysia, his tree-planting programs across local schools in Klang Valley where close to 2000 Neem trees were planted, to imbibe a sense of closeness to nature amongst schoolchildren.

    He is also a founding member of SEEd.Lab.my which is a first ever incubator program in Malaysia to create Social Enterprises to address Youth unemployment. Apart from that, he and his friends provide monthly food to more than 400 homeless people in Kuala Lumpur. He is also facilitator with an NGO that assist parents to raise wholesome children through ParentCare and Living Skills programs.

    He is a half marathon runner and aspires to play golf more frequently.

    Chief Executive at Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA)

    Dato' Haji Mohd. Noorazam has been the Chief Executive of the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) since 1 January 2025. He brings over 30 years of experience serving in various State governments and a Johor state GLC.

    Before being the Chief Executive of IRDA, he was the Mayor of Johor Bahru. As a Johor state government official, he served as the Chief Executive for Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor (KPRJ), the Private Secretary for the Menteri Besar of Johor, the District Officer for Muar and Kota Tinggi and a Deputy Director for the Johor Economic Planning Division, among others.

    In his current role, he leads IRDA, a Malaysian Federal Government statutory body tasked as the main coordinating agency between stakeholders in the public and private sectors for planning and facilitating the development of Iskandar Malaysia into a strong and sustainable metropolis of international standing.

He brings fresh expertise, accompanied by over two decades of industry knowledge. Tuan Haji Natazha holds a Masters of Science in Land Administration & Development from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and a Bachelor of Computer Science from Universiti Putra Malaysia, accompanying his qualifications.

    Before becoming an integral part of JCorp, Tuan Haji Natazha held the position of Director for Badan Kawalselia Air Johor (BAKAJ). Prior to that role, he was Yang Dipertua at Majlis Perbandaran Kulai. His years of experience and specialized education makes him an asset, contributing to the continued success and innovation within JCorp.

    Frederick Kliem is the Southeast Asia Director of the Economist Intelligence Corporate Network (EICN) based in Singapore. Frederick works closely with network members to help inform their business strategies through political, economic and operational insights and to connect them with their senior leadership peers.

    Frederick is a seasoned consultant and well-published thought-leader in politics, the economy and sustainability of Asia. He has more than 20 years of experience working on and in South- and Southeast Asia, and he has worked closely with business, political and civil society stakeholders to help inform their strategies and build networks.

    Before joining The Economist Group, Frederick was the Director Climate Change and Energy Security for the Konrad Adenauer Foundation – a development organisation of the German government, dedicated to the promotion of a social market economy - in Singapore and Hong Kong. Prior to that, Frederick lectured and taught post-graduate students (MA and PhD) at the S Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore.

    Frederick holds a PhD in International Relations and Multilateralism in Asia and is passionate about politics and economics as well as climate and sustainability issues. On these and more, he is a well-published published author, with several books, peer-reviewed-journal articles and numerous media appearances and op-eds to his name.
