Event Details

Global trade is entering a period of heightened uncertainty. The recent U.S. announcement of sweeping new tariffsโ€”including a 10% levy on all countries and individualized reciprocal higher tariffs on nations with which the U.S. runs the largest trade deficitsโ€”has sent shockwaves through global supply chains, causing unprecedented disruption. While a 90-day pause on reciprocal tariffs offers temporary relief, the long-term impact is expected to be profound and far-reaching.

Meanwhile, the U.S.-China trade war continues to escalate, with successive rounds of retaliatory tariffs further inflaming tensions. Though negotiations may eventually take place, the scale of the new U.S. tariffs on Chinese goodsโ€”driven by concerns over trade imbalancesโ€”and the prospect of further control measures such as tariffs tied to chips and pharma continue to pose significant risks to China's export outlook and broader economy.

More critically, the breadth of these tariffs directly undermines the "China+1" strategy, compelling businesses and policymakers alike to reassess supply chain resilience and diversification strategies.

Join us for a timely and forward-looking discussion with leading experts from The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). They will offer valuable insights for decision-makers to build resilience and foresight in an era of global trade disruption.
