Event Details

Coming off the election fever of a contentious US presidential election, we turn our attention to Malaysia - a country facing a political impasse in the midst of a pandemic. With a potential snap General Election in the coming year and heightened economic challenges, will political outcomes be determined primarily by economic or other social undercurrents? Policy outcomes could vary substantially depending upon which of Malaysia's many parties end up in the governing coalition. We speak to experts in Malaysia's economic and political fields to better understand the potential political outcomes and implications to eventual public policy direction, given the current set of economic circumstances.

I am also excited to let you know that we are increasing our commitment to the Malaysian market by, for the first time, having an ECN Network Director based in Kuala Lumpur. Kristina Fong is an accomplished economist with extensive experience in analysing Malaysia's macroeconomy, helping companies to navigate complex regulations, and in international trade. Kristina will be leading the discussion at this event. This week we are also joined in Singapore by William Thomas, who takes over from Pamela Qiu as ECN Network Director for South-east Asia. William has lived and worked in Singapore, Bangkok and Manila over the last decade, and has a deep understanding of the strategic, operational and talent implications of geopolitical change, and an academic background on managing change in multinational organisations. William and Kristina bring a fantastic mix of skills and experience to our South-east Asia members, and we look forward to delivering a greatly enhanced service to you in 2021.

Please note that this event is limited to senior-level executives and per invitation only. If you are not an existing member of The Economist Corporate Network, but would like to learn how you can attend our events, please send an email to ecn_sea@economist.com.
