Event Details

The Two Sessions, or Lianghui for its name in Chinese, are the annual gatherings of China's two main political bodies, the National People's Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, where key issues relevant to China's development pathway are discussed and plans for central policies are revealed.

This year's Two Sessions are especially important:

  • First because of the context against which they are being held. Domestically, China's economy continues facing downward pressures as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and the tightening of the regulatory oversight on sectors such as real estate and tech. Externally, the geopolitical environment has continued deteriorating, with international perceptions about China at their lowest point in history.
  • Second, because later this year the Communist Party of China (CPC) will convene for its 20th National Congress, which is expected to legitimize CPC General Secretary and President of China, Xi Jinping, to continue at the helm of both party and country for another five years, if not a decade.

Please join us to discuss the key takeaways from this year's Two Sessions, the likely implications for the country's growth outlook and business landscape, and what this reveals about where China is heading to in the next decade.
