Event Details
Once considered as only a secondary concern, environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards have increasingly gone mainstream in line with rising expectations of society on how governments and companies should behave in a world affected by climate change and the degradation of the environment; increasing income inequality and poverty; social injustice and discrimination.
Against this backdrop, more capital providers are paying more attention to ESG standards, not only in response to the demands of their shareholders, but also as a way to diminish the risks of their investments. However much more needs to be done: in revealing the vulnerabilities of our global economy, the Covid-19 pandemic has brought to light the criticality of increasing the inclusiveness and sustainability of development at a fasterpace.
How is this trend impacting China? What role do Chinese authorities see for ESG standards in achieving their development priorities, and what are they doing to enable this role? More importantly, how are Chinese businesses responding to this, and what are the business implications for foreign firms?
Please join us for a breakfast event where Dequan Wang, CEO of Governance Solutions Group, will talk about the emergence of ESG as a core, rather than a periphery, investment metric. Following this our Beijing Director will engage in a conversation with a panel of experts.
Please note that this event is limited to senior-level executives and per invitation only. If you are not an existing member of The Economist Corporate Network, but would like to learn how you can attend our events, please contact us.
