Multinational firms in Asia are facing stronger competition from local corporations, which are now increasingly going global. In 2019 China overtook the US as the country with the most Fortune Global 500 firms, and Asian companies now make up more than 40% of this list. A decade ago, that figure was just 29%.

Given the complexity and scale of Asia's markets, big business understands the importance of investing in talent who come directly from the region. Tapping into the nuanced knowledge and deep networks of local managers can help the firm to navigate high-growth markets, drive relevant home-grown innovation and identify emerging pockets of opportunity.

At the same time, however, nationality and a natural affinity to indigenous markets are not the only attributes needed to drive business prosperity in Asia. To orchestrate stellar performances, country and regional CEOs must master effective stakeholder engagement across both the local and international ecosystems. After all, companies, people and their ideas continue to compete in a highly globalised world.

How can companies cultivate "glocal" leadership? How do C-suite leaders nurture global perspectives in local talent, and local sensitivities in global talent? What organisational structures and cultures facilitate the development of Asian leaders? Why do traditional western MNCs often bemoan the dearth of local talent but Asian firms seem to face less hurdles growing local leadership?

Join us for this invitation-only, closed-door session, as we discuss local leadership and how it drives sustainable business growth in Asia, the role of the CEO in building strong glocal leadership pipelines, management of multicultural teams, and global leadership competencies and their relevance to Asia.

Please note that this event is limited to senior-level executives and per invitation only. If you are not an existing member of The Economist Corporate Network, but would like to learn how you can attend our events, please send an email to ecn_sea@economist.com.
