Event Details

The covid19 pandemic has caused income and job losses for many GCC residents. With residency tied to employment in most countries across the region, redundancy almost inevitably means departure. At this online event we will explore likely changes in regional populations and demographics and the scale of the potential expat exodus, as well as what it might mean for the labour market, consumer demand and consumer spending.

We will also discuss the impact of other trends that might affect the movement of people across the region, including automation, remote working and offshoring.

Expert insight will be provided by Zahabia Saleem Gupta, associate director, sovereign and international public finance ratings at S&P Global, who will share the highlights of the company's hot-off-the-press report Expat Exodus Adds To Gulf Region's Economic Diversification Challenges. Nuno Gomes, head of careers MENAT at Mercer, will explore the employment implications of regional population change. And we will also receive much wisdom from our special guest Dr Nasser Saidi, the founder and president of Nasser Saidi & Associates, the former chief economist and head of external relations at the DIFC Authority, and the former Minister of Economy & Trade and Minister of Industry of Lebanon.

Please note that this event is limited to senior-level executives and per invitation only. If you are not an existing member of The Economist Corporate Network, but would like to learn how you can attend our events, please contact us.
