Automation and other new technologies are spreading to every production line in every country. As wages in China rise, for example, some of its mass-production lines are being fitted not just with robots but with 3D printers, too. As global supply chains shorten and some countries start looking inward more than before, companies may similarly turn to additive manufacturing to tailor products to the demands of local consumers. What does this all mean for the future of production and jobs in South-east Asia? Where will the skills gaps be?
Concepts such as "smart factories" offer incredible opportunities, but technology is only useful if it adds to business value. As some companies look beyond industrial automation to industrial autonomy, they need to consider not only new technologies but also new business methodologies. Change for the sake of change does little to help the bottom line.
Our session will include a panel of experts (still to be finalized) from automation developers and advanced manufacturers who can discuss their vision for the future as well as the opportunities of the present. We look forward to exploring the potential for advancement while also looking at how to make that transformation process go more smoothly.
Changes in manufacturing will have ripple effects impacting supply chains, workforce structures, investment, product pricing, and more. The volatility that we see in manufacturing exists across all industries, and so the practices discussed here will offer lessons to leaders from any sector. With implications for IT, HR, finance, and other functions, we know you will take away some insights that will help you no matter your role.
