Event Details

Four months into the Trump administration, the era of globalisation has reached a pivotal inflection point. On April 2, the Trump administration sent shockwaves through the world, rattling stock and bond markets with its unpredictable tariff policies. The world was attuned to potential changes in the American tariff regime. The depth and breadth of the policies that were eventually announced did, however, represent the "worst-case" scenario. Many ASEAN economies have been significantly impacted, now facing the threat of surprisingly high tariffs. This casts doubt certainly on the viability of "China+1", which once held much promise for the region. The future of Southeast Asia as a manufacturing and export powerhouse now hangs in the balance and will have to be re-thought.

At this event, we will delve into the unpredictable nature of Trump's measures and their far-reaching implications for global trade, the economy and Southeast Asia in particular. This event offers a unique opportunity for our members to tap into the expertise of The Economist Group and trade specialists. You can also gain valuable insights from fellow business leaders navigating these turbulent times.

Join us for this meeting, to better understand the substantial risks the US has introduced to the global economyโ€”and Southeast Asia in particular. While the challenges are undeniable, history shows that chaos often breeds opportunity. Together, we will explore what these opportunities might be and envision a future shaped by the rise of intra-Asian trade. Do not miss this chance to gain clarity and perspective in an uncertain world.

Please note that this event is limited to senior-level executives and per invitation only. If you are not an existing member of Economist Intelligence Corporate Network, but would like to learn how you can attend our events, please send an email to eicn_sea@economist.com.
