Event Details

China's economy has significantly underperformed in 2022 with challenges related to covid-19 and the property sector weighing heavily. We estimate growth of just 3.3% this year—adding pressure to the country's decision-makers.

What is China's growth strategy for the years ahead, and how will the world respond to lowered Chinese demand for goods?

China's president, Xi Jinping, won a sweeping victory at the recently concluded 20th party congress, elevating close allies into leadership roles. His deepened authority points to strong policy continuity but also missteps, as checks and balances further weaken.

The biggest near-term test is likely to be navigating an easing of China's "zero-covid" policy.

Join us as we explore China's outlook through 3 topics:

  • The outcomes from the 20th party congress and the implications for policy and businesses working with or in China
  • The economic outlook for China in 2023 - including policies related to property and covid-19
  • The geopolitical landscape between China and the United States, South-East Asia, ANZ, and other key markets
