Event Details
South and Southeast Asia are particularly vulnerable to climate change and are frequently affected by heatwaves and extreme weather events โ a situation that will only deteriorate. Global warming and the climate change that it hastens are the greatest medium- to long-term threats not only to businesses but to humanity at large. And yet, after a brief moment of global attention before the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change has slipped down the agenda of both the public and policymakers. All the while, emission of heat-trapping greenhouse gases continues unabatedly.
From a business perspective, the impact of climate change is existential. Estimates of economic losses due to natural disasters and extreme weather events in 2023 range around USD 400 billion, with only a quarter of these losses covered by insurance. Some sectors will be more exposed than others, but none is free from risk. Corporates should take climate risks seriously and devise and manage a sector-specific approach to climate change mitigation, resilience and adaptation. It is incumbent on senior executives to assess their enterprise's risk and exposure as well as mitigation potential.
Join us as we bring together a select group of business leaders and experts to discuss these pressing concerns.
