Event Details
This is a politically consequential year for China, with a twice-a-decade meeting about to take place in Beijing starting on 16 October. The 20th Party Congress will involve the formation of a new CCP central committee, reshuffling the politburo standing committee and central commission for discipline inspection - the highest level decision-making bodies in China. President Xi is also expected to remain firmly in control and remain in power for an unprecedented third term. The politburo statement announcing the meeting hinted at policy continuity, so we do not expect dramatic shifts by late October. Nonetheless, questions persist about President Xi's broader leadership team and what it will mean for economic policy and more.
Join your EICN China Directors for a virtual programme unpacking what to expect from the upcoming Party Congress.
