Event Details

The chemical industry is a pillar of the modern world economy. It converts raw materials into more than 70000 different products for industry and consumer usage, directly touching more than 96% of all manufactured goods. At the same time, it is also one of the largest contributors of the global warming challenge, estimated to consume 10% of global energy demand and release 7% of global CO2 emissions. The International Energy Agency estimates emissions from primary chemical production must decline 10% by 2030 to limit warming to 1.8 degrees Celsius.

China has pledged to peak its carbon emission by 2030 and to reach carbon neutrality by 2060. As the chemical industry consumes about 16% of its energy and produces about 18% of its total carbon emission, building a climate-friendly chemical industry is critical for China to achieve these two goals. In this event, we will invite business leaders and industry experts to discuss how to transform the chemical industry to make it climate-friendly.

We will discuss topics that include but not limited to:

· Policy outlook on decarbonizing the chemical industry;

· Key technology areas to decarbonize the chemical industry, and the associated business opportunities;

· Opportunities and challenges for MNCs in the green transition of China's chemical industry.

Please note that this event is limited to senior-level executives and per invitation only. If you are not an existing member of The Economist Intelligence Corporate Network, but would like to learn how you can attend our events, please contact us.
