Prototypes have already appeared in the biennial Farnborough air show in 2018. When realized, it will reduce congestion, enable us to travel faster and revolutionize the future of mobility across the globe. But how realistic is this future and how long will it take for the technology to mature? Years or decades? Can technology overcome a list of obvious obstacles such as cost, safety and environmental issues?

    Head, Asia Pacific Innovation Center at DHL

    Justin Baird is the Head of DHL Asia Pacific Innovation Center (APIC), where he is responsible for leading a team of innovators to explore emerging logistics-related technologies and showcase the latest innovations that has or will reinvent supply chains.

    With over two decades of experience in management and emerging technology, Justin’s expertise ranges from research and development to interactive multimedia installation technologies. He previously held management roles in Imagination Australia, Mosaic and Accenture, and spent five years as an innovationist at Google where he played an instrumental role in launching the first Android devices in Asia Pacific.

    Justin is highly motivated to collaborate with colleagues, industry and business partners to transform the future of logistics through sharing knowledge, stimulating dialogues and engaging joint projects. He leads a team of like-minded innovators to germinate ideas, inspire, connect and engage with relevant partners across the region.

  • Yasunori Mochizuki (Fellow at NEC Corporation)

    Yasunori Mochizuki

    Fellow at NEC Corporation

    Yasunori Mochizuki is NEC Fellow since April 2019 and is focused on Digital Transformation and IoT eco-systems strategy for Smart Cities. Previously, he was Senior Vice President responsible for NEC’s corporate technology strategy including R&D roadmap and open innovations. Yasunori is also active in global networks (i.e. NPO) as well as policy proposal activities related to smart cities. He is a Smart City Project Fellow at World Economic Forum’s Japan Center for the Forth Industrial Revolution, where he works for multi-stakeholder collaboration on technology governance, and also is a Board-of-Directors member of FIWARE Foundation, an open source ecosystem for smart cities and digital economy, since March 2017 representing NEC.

    Yasunori Mochizuki has 30+ years of career as a research scientist and then as a general manager of research departments of NEC and his technical expertise covers a broad area including AI-oriented computer science, ICT systems, integrated devices and solid-state physics. He received his PhD in Electronics Engineering from University of Tokyo.

In this role, he is responsible for developing air vehicles and building new UAM businesses. He also served as Head of the Commercial Vehicle Planning Team and conducted various projects that encompass establishing the company's strategy and developing new business opportunities. Before joining Hyundai Motor Company, from 2006 to 2014, he worked for the Boston Consulting Group leading an array of corporate development projects including new business entrance, M&A, and PMI (Post Merger Integration). He earned his MBA degree from Kellogg at Northwestern University in 2010.

    Frank Wilde leads customer innovation as a Vice President for SAP’s Global Center of Excellence. In this role, Frank’s teams of data scientists and platform architects spark innovative thinking with SAP’s strategic customers leveraging 5G and edge services.



    Frank is a seasoned executive with a focus in product innovation, sales and sales operations. Before joining SAP, Frank led a software development organization at Apple supporting Apple’s strategic partners such as IBM, Cisco and AT&T. Prior to Apple, Frank led a corporate strategy organization and a sales innovation organization at Dell. His teams designed and built Dell’s first consumer loyalty platform and created a competitive version of iTunes. Frank also spent 9 years with Deloitte Consulting leading digital transformations with high tech, telecom, and public sector clients. He began his career as a software engineer building CRM and supply chain applications before transitioning into management consulting.



    Also, Frank attended UCLA for college, earned an MBA at Duke University, and served as an officer in the Navy. He is based in Palo Alto.

    Takuji Okubo is the North Asia Director of The Economist Corporate Network, managing the Networks in Japan and in South Korea.

    Prior to joining The Economist Group, Takuji was the Managing Director and Chief Economist at Japan Macro Advisors, serving global fortune 500 companies and financial institutions in Japan and abroad. In his past career, Takuji was a Chief Economist at Societe Generale, in charge of Japan and of South Korea, and a senior economist at Merrill Lynch and at Goldman Sachs. Outside his role at ECN, Takuji also serves as a non-executive director at Japan Risk Forum, an association of Chief Risk Officers among Japanese financial institutions.

    Takuji holds B.A in Economics from Tokyo University and while at the university he was a recipient of prestigious INOUE scholarship. He holds MBA from INSEAD and Msc. In Economics from UPF in Barcelona. Apart from work, he enjoys motor-cycling, scuba-diving, cooking as well as worrying about the future of the Japanese economy.
