Event Details

China is facing a new paradigm in its development process, which combines the imperative to continue transitioning to a high value-added economy with the need to increase its resilience to rising global volatility. Against this backdrop, the government has moved forward with the implementation of its new 'dual circulation' strategy, which features strongly in the recently-released 14th Five-Year Plan, and which looks to make the domestic economy the main driver of growth, including by strengthening domestic value chains.

The fears that China will shut its doors to foreign firms as a result of this strategy are misplaced. But given the changes in the geopolitical context, and the realization that global value chains are not as resilient as once thought, China will move towards boosting indigenous capabilities and reducing import dependency in sectors which are critical for national security, particularly technology.

What will be the implications for China's technological innovation progress in the years to come, and what will this mean for business? Will there be opportunities for foreign companies to play a role in this, and in which areas?
