Event Details

Artificial intelligence (AI) could revolutionise industries from medicine to manufacturing. The benefits, in terms of efficiency, productivity, speed and agility, are undoubted.

Furthermore, in recent months "surveillance capitalism" has increasingly no longer been considered evil and exploitative, but essential to tackle the covid-19 pandemic that is raging across the rich and poor worlds. Just as many governments are locking down their populations and tracking citizen movements to a degree unimaginable until recently, no one is complaining about big tech zealously taking down misinformation about covid-19, and increasingly relying on AI to do so. In more normal times, such activity would have triggered howls of outrage over censorship and bias.

As AI pushes beyond the tech industry, however, the consequences are profound, and the risks of unregulated AI are unprecedented. How should policymakers and business leaders be planning for the threats and opportunities of AI, and harnessing this powerful technology in responsible ways?

Join us for a stimulating conversation with leaders who have an extensive wealth of experience from both the public and private sectors, who are building up the practicality of AI to realise its immense potential. Importantly, we debate how to ensure AI is used responsibly in business, in government and in wider society.

Our featured speakers include: Liu Feng-yuan, CEO and Co-Founder, BasisAI; Zee Kin Yeong, Deputy Commissioner, Personal Data Protection Comission (PDPC) and Assistant Chief Executive (Data Innovation and Protection Group), Infocomm Media Development Authority of Singapore; Meri Rosich, Chief Data Officer and Head of Data Science, Visa Consulting and Analytics, Asia Pacific, Visa; Marcus Bartley Johns, Regional Director, Government Affairs and Public Policy, Asia, Microsoft; Maya Hari, Vice President, APAC, Twitter; Charles Ross, Asia Editorial Director, Thought Leadership, The Economist Intelligence Unit.
