Under "normal" conditions a fifth of Africa's population is undernourished, according to the UN. However, the current context is anything but normal: there is a major locust outbreak impacting food supplies across a swathe of countries in the region; moreover, the fallout from covid-19 is disrupting economic activity, cross-border trade and supply chains, as well as contributing to the depreciation of emerging market currencies against the US dollar which places additional pressure on the current account and inflation.
Joining me to unpack the near-to-medium term regional food security outlook given the above and other challenges will be Prabdeep Bajwa, Africa Middle East President at Corteva Agriscience.
